Today, The Tragic Thrills released their debut, self-titled album. The Tragic Thrills used to be known as Allstar Weekend, but back in January 2013, the band announced that they were going to be changing their name to The Tragic Thrills and they would no longer be playing any Allstar Weekend songs. Being the big Allstar Weekend fan that I was, I have been anticipating the release of the band’s first album as The Tragic Thrills. I wasn’t sure what to expect from the album, seeing as I had no idea what direction the band was going to go in. But, after listening to the album today, I was surprised with the turn out. The record has a pop-y vibe to it, yet there’s a bit of an indie sound mixed in there too. The album reminds me a lot of Passion Pit, The Naked and Famous, and any other similar sounding alternative band that is getting radio play now-a-days. I have to say though, I’m personally on the fence with this album. There are two tracks that I really love (“Tears” and “Fever), but the rest of the album I’m not really a big fan of. Maybe I just need to warm up to it, but there is something about the overall sound and flow of the record that just is not working for me.
